Hey everybody!!! I want this chapter to be really long, in a plead for forgiveness. Sorry. College and time management are a doozy. Life is hectic and yadda, yadda, yadda. Now where did we leave off...

*...Zechs and Noin were in the flashback about their history and Zechs was on his way to his keep.
This is a Treize and Une moment.

Enjoy!

Une as of late had been plagued with nightmares. These past few nights, however, she'd tried to keep them quiet. Dark shadows, love ones dying, everything was trying to torment her. Usually, as stalwart as Une was she could suppress the urge to scream or even cry. Tonight was a totally different story.

Her scream escaped her lips and Treize's thin walls let the unnatural sound seep straight through. She could almost count down to his excellency's inevitable trip to her bed room. She muttered under her breath, "Five, four, three tw-..."

"Une, what happened!" Trieze walked straight through the wall that would have stopped anyone else. Yet another one of his inexplainable powers. He held a blue orb in his hand that was poised and ready to burn the skin off what or whoever dared to terrorize his claimed. His features relaxed slightly as he scanned the room and came short of an enemy. He vanished the power and his gaze fell steadily on Une.

Une started quite violently from her admiring reverie. When Treize had come to her room, he'd stood ready to fight. Of course, he had not taken the time to cover the beautifully built expanse of his chest and abdomen. She shook her head wishing that she could shake the blush that seemed to attach itself to her cheeks perpetually (when she was in his presence), off just as easily.

Treize secretly noted his ward's pretty red tint, and stored that information away for another time. He then ran his hands through his head which did nothing except to make his hair more unruly. He sighed and walked toward her.

She looked pensively at him as came closer and studied her countenance in more depth. Had she forgotten to wipe the telltale tears of the fear that at some point in her horrible dream had wandered down her face?

Treize traced the wet trail gently down one cheek. Of course she had.

"What was it this time, Une?" Trieze inquired this softly so that he would not startle her. He firmly held her chin and forced her to look into his eyes.

She pulled out of his grasp and silently sobbed. The dark evil was mocking her. It knew of everything and everyone dear to her. In this particular dream, the darkness had taken the form of a shadowy being. It had killed Trieze with a shadow sword through his chest. She'd been a ghost in her own dream, however. Her hands had gone through the physical dream world and she'd been helpless to Treize.

Creator! Had he come to mean so much to her in those past few months? Shouldn't she have been glad? Surely his death meant her freedom?! However, this line of thought caused her to tremble. His death was the last thing she wanted.

Trieze laid a hand on her hair. He meant it only as a comforting gesture. However, his Fey sight went mad and visions of her fear and anger at her helplessness in the dream flooded him. Other vague thoughts about himself tried to push into his senses too. However, these were the most shielded.

By the time he was able to pull away from the violent experience, Une was panting and gasping for breath. He'd touched her in such an intimate way. Dear Creator! If looking him in the eye was hard before, it was damn near impossible now.

Meanwhile, Trieze's midnight blue eyes bore into Une's being with a fierce intensity. He now understood her fear of him dying, and she was fooling herself if she thought he'd let her sleep alone tonight. His hands gently ran up and down her arms. All the while his stare compelled her to look at him. When she finally did, Trieze saw the that the tears were back. He pulled her fiercely to him.

This small act seemed to shatter whatever shield she had feebly created for herself. She was scared and she needed him much more than she would ever imagine or admit.
With the greatest of ease, he picked her up and carried her to his chambers. Once there, he put her down in his bed and pulled the cover around her.

" I'll sleep in front of the fireplace." he said. She nodded and tried to go to sleep. Trieze turned off the lights.

Once the dark hit, the panic started and she could not make out Trieze's form on the floor. She called out once, "Trieze."

"Une, are you okay," he answered.

She was trembling as she held out her hand to him. In more pleasant circumstances, he would have easily seen the irony of his claimed inviting him to his own bed. However, these were neither pleasant or happy times. Therefore, he took her hand and settled the both of them under the covers. In the dark he whispered to her and stroked her hair until she fell asleep. They felt right.

"and the moon shall say to the stars, shine in rest and content for we are the creatures of love...keepers of night."
